THE CONCERT by Rebekka Pichler

A camera is supposed to catch reality and film things how they are. What if we use the camera to film things how they are not? This project with the title The Concert is a solo performance for one performer, one VJ, three old televisions, and two cameras. Events unfold within the framework of a classical concert, whose conventions the piece references but gradually deconstructs. Through cameras that film both what is present and what is absent, live and pre-recorded images collide on the television screens, destabilising the boundary between what is real and what is constructed, between the present moment and its simulation. When reality is continuously mediated by images, does it remain reality – or does it become something else entirely? Duration: approximately 45 minutes.
